2014 Klondike Derby
Boy Scouts & Venturers, your patrol or crew would do well to come out and test your metal in the towns of the Illinek Territory on Lake Springfield this January. A Klondike Derby will be held on Saturday the 25th, and the stakes will be OVER $1,000 in REAL GEAR for your patrol. Challenges will be held in search and rescue, lumberjacking, rope work, and general quarter mastering, among others.
Each unit is challenged with the goal of spending Friday or Saturday night, braving the elements in a structure you have engineered (for extra points). Saturday January 18th has been set aside for their construction if you wish.
The Boy Scout Handbook will be your guide, but your Scout Spirit will be needed to warm your souls. So fashion your sled and wax your skis (or wheels) and BE PREPARED for the Challenge of the Winter!
Food: Leader cracker-barrel Friday night, hot breakfast Saturday, hot dinner Saturday.
Check-in: Check-in will be held in Booth Lodge from 6-9 pm Friday night and 7-8 am in the campmaster lodge on Saturday morning. Units not checked in on Friday night will not be counted for breakfast unless other arrangements have been made. Walk-in's may not get breakfast Saturday.
Leader's Meeting: Each troop is required to have their Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader (or each positions designee) in attendance at a 9 pm meeting to discuss up to date rule clarifications and general question answering.
Events: Patrols will need to check-in, ready for the day's activities in order to start competing. The "towns" will be open at 9 am, close for lunch from 12-1 pm, and close for the day at 4 pm. Patrols will finally need to check out to be able to access their points earned at the auction. Click here for Derby Event listings.
Auction: The points earned from the day's activities will be used in a LIVE auction Saturday night where patrols can bid in over $1000 of gear such as camp stoves, coolers, utensils, dutch ovens, and more.
Cost: $12.00 per person before January 17th. After January 17th, the fee will increase to $17.00 per person.
Judges: This event runs by having most units supply some adult leaders to help run the events. Please note on the registration which adults are volunteering.
Leader's Guide: This information is only a brief to understand what will generally be going on at the Klondike. Please read the ENTIRE leaders' guide for up to date rules, tips for success and other information that is vital to having a smooth running event for over 400 people in attendance.
